The Card Game of Life

Life is but a game of cards
We all have to quickly learn,
We shuffle, cut, and deal the deck
Then a trump we seem to turn,
Some players show up high cards
While others only make it low,
Many turn no card at all
In fact, they cannot show.

When hearts are up we play for love,
So our pleasure shows its face
Each day goes pleasantly passing bye,
As sunshine's it's rosy face.
When diamonds chance to crown the pack,
That's when men stake their gold,
And thousands then are lost or won,
By the gamblers, young and old.

When clubs are trump look out for war
Upon oceans blue, or treasured land,
For bloody deeds are often done
When the clubs are held in hand.
At last...up turns the darkened spade,
Held by a patient slave,
Spade will turn up trump at last
And dig each player's grave.

FREE

Don't grieve I'm off to be free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I held his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay here another day
To laugh, to love, work nor play.
Work left undone will stay that way,
I found my peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left some void
Best fill it with remembered joy
Friendship we shared, a laugh a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too, will miss.
Not to be burdened in times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine for every tomorrow.
My life has been full, I savour so much.
Good times, good friends, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time may have seemed to brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief,
Lift up you hearts and share with me,
God wanted me now, And...He's set me free.
